  • If you've ever been to the Canadian national Exhibition in Toronto, chances are you've inhaled a bag of freshly-fried, icing=sugared miniature donuts. If you've never been to the CNE (likely because you hate crowds, germs or carnies), chances are you've heard somebody yammer on about those damn donuts. Well, good news you sterile people! Little Nicky's offers the joy of fresh hot mini donuts alongside strong-brewed expensive coffee drinks, in a civilized cafe environment. Walking along Queen Street, it's easy to find Little Nicky's-a huge sign beckons you to their side-street entrance. The shop itself is located up a few stairs; small and shabby chic. It's a great place to sit, if you can grab one of the perpetually-occupied tables. If not, grab your latte and grab your (do)nuts and go. Is there anything better than coffee and donuts? Especially when the coffee is strong, and the milk properly frothed to creamy sweetness? I kinda think the best coffee drinks hit chocolate notes...Little Nicky's pass the test. Especially when the donuts are hot and fresh; still crisp outside and airy inside-free of grease. Something the big chains have all but abandoned. Carnies can opt for cinnamon sugar, or indulge in a Tony-Montana moustache of powdered sugar (bonus points if, after sticking your face in the donut bag, you run manically down Queen Street yelling "SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND" or " I ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH, EVEN WHEN I LIE" or "LOOK AT ME, I'M THE MAYOR OF TORONTO". I prefer my donuts naked, but I don't begrudge you your preferences. Seriously. Donuts. Coffee. No Carnies. Go.
