Did my second locked room today (first in the new location) and took my team and had us locked up in the pirate room and it was just great fun. Even the reluctant got involved after a few minutes not knowing what to think early on and where getting excited as the clock ticked down.
First of all, it's a perfect team event and the collaboration happens so very organically. Team building can be costly, or ineffectual or difficult to find something interesting but was a very reasonable activity that naturally lead to great cooperation and intuitive thinking. There is cheering and celebration of successes. Great for groups of creatives, millennials, engineers or other technical kind of people. My first time round we ended up with 2 people in the room and that was a complete bust. It was so much most successful with a group of 8 (but don't worry - 2 people can go I just recommend finding a room with another small group already booked and squeeze in with them!)
Some of the puzzles are really challenging (or dead easy and you are making them challenging) and I can't believe we figured out a couple (I never would have made it there myself I don't believe). It's probably worth it to get a clue if you're really stuck because sometimes the room just falls into place after you get by ONE lock.and it's really the difference between finishing or not.
Over all it's quite fun and worth a go if you like puzzles, riddles, and snooping around people's houses. The new location is also looks a bit more put together which adds to the experience.
A suggestion - before your party or event why not get some cocobrooks across the street? And once the pirate room has you asking "where's the rum?" maybe hit up the toad and turtle to celebrate your escape (or drown your sorrows) with an adult beverage.
