| - It was a few days before my pending appointment, I received a call from their office, and I assumed that it was a reminder for my up coming appointment. However, within minutes I was notified that they needed both mine and my wife's Social Security number over the phone.
I let the person know that it was not necessary and that it was not needed when we had first used Shepard several years ago. I have not provided these numbers to any doctor, dentist or optometrist since I moved here 5 years ago, all they should be concerned about is my insurance. In this time of identity theft and hacking, the last thing that you need is sensitive information floating around.
I was then given the option, If I didn't want to give then my Social Security number, of giving then a $125 fee per person for NOT giving them my and my wifes numbers. I thanked her for her time and cancelled both appointments. The beauty of Las Vegas is that we found 37 optometrist within 5 miles. As a follow up we were just walking by another optometrist office and just walked in to look at frames, no appointment at all. Within minutes, we were helped by a pleasant, professional and experienced person, before we had left, we had set a appointment, oh, and they did not request our SS numbers.
Did not feel like an assembly line.
