| - Imagine if American Apparel branded a barre studio, and that gives you some idea of the aesthetic here. The accessories and equipment are cute and fun, and overall the instructor approach is very hands off. The instructor I had didn't always demonstrate specific movements; instead, she described them and walked around the class while doing so. I saw some people in the class struggling and / or not able to follow through on specific movements, but there are no modifications offered. If you're new to barre, you might not get much out of the class while you wait out more advanced exercises. Also, if you have any injuries or limitations, no modifications are offered. I tried making my own modifications, but the instructor didn't seem to take that very well and kept repeating her instructions as though I had not heard her (I was using the barre for tricep pushups instead of the floor). Perhaps I should have warned them in advance about a wrist injury?
The staff were very friendly, and I appreciate how they clear away equipment and weights so you can focus on the class. However, the amount of pelvic "tucking", as mentioned by Denise in here review, isn't great for spinal alignment. It just doesn't seem as safe as barre3 or barreworks classes, which tend to be more thoughtful about that sort of thing.
The location is great and the studio was very clean and bright when I took a class here. I would try it out again to see how they are after a few months.
