| - My review is mainly for people reading the earlier reviews which are more critical / negative and are a bit put off.
1) I've been to the original food cart in NYC. Of course it's outstanding, but you have to remember the NYC cart is not using Canadian products - meat, veggies, etc, so the taste will be different even slightly. It's also very hard to compete with the original and the charm that it comes with.
2) The lines are long of course because it recently opened, had a huge hype from all the craze that it has in NYC, and so you have to expect the lines to be long for quite some time. Frankly, this seems fairly obvious. As well as key times for lunch and dinner. I went on a Thursday around 6:30 PM and the line was only slightly out the door, but wasn't going around the building as it's been, and everyone seemed fairly content with it. It wasn't until around 7:00 that the line started to really get going.
3) I've never had the actual shwarama or falafel, so I can't speak yet to how good those are, but the platter is what Halal Guys is known for. One user commented that the salad was basic - shredded lettuce and some tomatoes. Consider that it's like that as cooling foods, because of how crazy spicy the hot sauce is. Granted, it probably could be better, but they're not advertising the salad much so it's a bit unrealistic to expect it.
IMO, it's the next best thing. The platter is comparable to Osmows or Lazeez, and that's fine. Everyone has their preferences. My own personal taste, I think it's a bit higher quality and I'm definitely coming back. However, I'd say give it a few months for the hype to get settled and the staff to come together more, get the cooking right, and see then.
I will give my one critique which is why I can't give this 5 stars: I thought it could be a little cheaper, and the beef tasted a bit generic. I've definitely had the same quality of beef at another shwarama place, but the chicken is good.
It isn't the original NYC cart, but I'm happy with it. Just take the few things in mind and then see.
