  • Stayed at the Hyatt Regency for Phoenix Comicon Fan Fest. We normally stay out near the airport and take the light rail to the convention center since it is around $50 a night less, but we decided to splurge this time. I'm glad we did. The hotel is excellent. Initially they booked us in a room on the third floor next to the pool. Sounded nice at first but the room felt very damp which isn't surprising and smelled a little smoky. Plus the front wall of the room is made of glass and looks out at the pool. There were curtains you could close of course, but it felt too much like a fishbowl. I'm sure some people would love it but it wasn't for us. Went back to the front desk and they very quickly put us in a room on the 20th floor for a very small upgrade fee. There were other rooms we could have picked without an additional fee but I opted for the higher floor and better view and I have no complaints. The room was quiet and gorgeous. Housekeeping was also very responsive. Asked for more washcloths and in five minutes they were at the door with a fistful of them. And when they cleaned the room they stocked us up with enough towels to last the entire stay. I also used the business center to send back a replica prop I got at the con that probably would have got me flagged by the TSA (It had radioactive symbols on the side and looked a bit like a home made bomb but I swear it wasn't) and the staff was extremely helpful. The only downside was visiting the Networks Grill when we arrived. The service, once again, was fantastic, the food was pretty good, about what you expect from a hotel. The prices were on the steep side but I've got eyes and rudementary math skills, I can roughly guess what the bill is going to be. If I spend too much tha'ts on me. What bothered me was that when my girlfriend ordered a Cosmo, they asked if she had a preference on the vodka. She said she didn't. So the bartender used Absolut and charged $15 for the drink! Seems to me that if a customer doesn't have a preference you shouldn't take that opportunity to gouge them. Other than that totally preventable incident, we had a great stay and we plan to stay here again next summer if we can.
