In a city as overrun with Mex. restos, we Las Vegans can afford to be picky. I am a super sucker for a super seafood taco and, after falling in love with Susan Feniger during my obsession with last season's Top Chef Masters, I couldn't wait to sample her cuisine while I was at a work-related event at the Mandalay this week. I wish Susan's cuteness and total cuisine inventiveness on Masters would have translated better on my plate. I went for the Spicy Shrimp tacos and couldn't have been more disappointed. The mini-corn tortillas on which the shrimp sat were soggy because they were overwhelmed with guac and other toppings, which didn't add to the dish's tastiness. The shrimp themselves were well-spiced... but were, unfortunately, served cold... as were the sides (the two types of rice on my plate were hard pellets and the almost-frozen pureed blackbeans were absolutely unappetizing). When I asked for a little hot sauce, Tabasco was bought to the table.... SERIOUSLY??!! I expect Tabasco at most restos... but not at Mex ones.... and especially not at this one. Needless to say, I was a bit under-impressed.
Susan -- please come and save your resto in Vegas!!! There are so many of us that would love to love your place!!!
