| - Madison can never have too much alcohol. Well, I supppoosseee that's not true, but State Line is a great addition to the drinking scene, joining staples like Old Sugar and Bos Meadery. State Line Distillery serves and sells their own homemade gin and vodka made from Wisconsin grain (!!), and their bar has some select, simple cocktails that showcase them! I went on their opening night and appreciated the OSS food cart outside (yum) as a pairing with my drinks. I got the bee's knees, a mule, and the sour with vodka, but tried the bushman and the clover's club and I'll say, out of all of them, clover's club and bee's knees were my favorite! Normally I love mules but they use a ginger syrup here rather than a ginger beer and it was a little too much on the sweet side for me--wish it was a little spicier.
The atmosphere is very neat! I loved the wood, especially the back corner that kind of looked like a ship on the wall. Kind of an industrial/wood feel and I'm into it! It'd be a nice place to grab a drink with a classy bud or start out a night with a date.
They sell their vodka and gin to the layperson, so I took home a bottle of their vodka--to find out they mark the batch number on the back!! So, cheers to having a bottle of batch #1! They also sell some cute tshirts.
In summary, I'm excited to have this place join the pack! It's a little farther out from downtown than is walkable (will that affect their business? It's close to Willy though!), so bike or hitch a ride, kids.
