| - I lived here for 4 years and the experience was back and forth between decent and really crappy, depending on who was managing the property at the time. Most of the crappy stuff happened under Sunrise Management so if you're looking to rent a property and that company is the one in charge of it, RUN!! Service requests would take months to fulfill (something as simple as changing an outdoor light bulb) if they didn't just slip through the cracks completely. I was worried about my kitchen floor because I noticed a slight dip forming in front of the sink and told them about it. After a lot of back and forth they agreed to replaced the flooring while I was on my summer vacation and I came back to find the floor not fixed and the management gone and replaced by Westcorp. I'm assuming Sunrise knew this change in management was happening when they agreed to do the repairs and flat out lied to me about it.
A quick list of some of the other not-so-great moments I had living here. Cockroaches when I first moved in and right before I moved out. The first half of last summer the pool was nasty and closed off because they said the owner didn't want to pay to have it cleaned. My truck was vandalized while parked right in front of my building one night. It seemed like police were swarming the grounds at least every other weekend for awhile and taking somebody living there away. And my personal favorite was my mail being stolen for the first half of 2015, mainly because I'm positive one of the leasing agents for Sunrise was behind it. I made a fuss about a FedEx package being delivered to the office and disappearing before I could pick it up at the end of 2014 and shortly after getting the corporate office involved this item magically showed up in their mail room, supposedly filed away in the wrong place. From that point on, I had items delivered through USPS without tracking mysteriously not making it to me at least once or twice a month and this problem suddenly stopped mid last summer after the Sunrise people got replaced. Coincidence? Maybe, but not likely.
While the current Westcorp management team is significantly better and the grounds have improved noticeably under their care, they are not without some faults of their own. The main reason I finally moved is because they decided they wanted to up my rent by nearly $200 a month after doing renovations they claimed weren't mandatory but they were going to charge me the extra amount whether I had them done or not. Even with the improvements and renovations, this complex is not nice enough to charge what they are to rent a one bedroom unit. Especially considering you have to pay sewer, water and trash on top of that as well as pay extra for a reserved parking spot, all things that a lot of the rival properties include in their rent. Also, for all the improvements they've made the one big one they consistently overlooked was the gates to the complex which have been non-operational and sitting wide open for at least the last two years now. I was told twice over the period of a year that they were going to be fixed and it just never happened for some reason.
Lastly, the head manager who does a decent job and is rather helpful while he's on the clock, is a slightly different person in his free time. He moved into the unit below me and spent nearly every spare moment he had sitting out on his patio with his roommate. Not an issue except that he would randomly start getting very loud during their conversations at all hours of the night and start yelling a stream of profanity loud enough for everyone, including families with children, in or near the building to hear. If it wasn't that, it was a lot of loud monotone singing coming from him, usually all throughout the days on the weekends, which was the only time I really had to chill at home. I complained to the corporate office through their website twice about his disruptive behavior and never heard back from anybody about it though I did notice both times that he quieted down for awhile after so I'm assuming somebody did speak to him about it. So, basically, the guy's a decent manager but a not-so-great neighbor if you're the kind of person who enjoys being able to relax and sleep soundly at night.
Aside from all that, it's not a terrible place to live otherwise I never would have lived there as long as I did or given it three stars. I had a great view from my apartment and very few maintenance issues that needed fixing. The grass and trees are green and looked after and the birds are singing. Most of my neighbors were courteous and quiet. Surprisingly, I was refunded my entire security deposit despite some minor damages caused by my cat. Still, I'm glad to have moved on from this place.
