| - there's no better description for the way i'm feeling after leaving this place than to say i felt like i was in twilight zone.
about 2 months ago, i saw the 2017 FW collection for berta bridal and was interested in a specific dress. i have recently moved from NYC to my hometown of cleveland and have been traveling back there to look at wedding gowns (at places such as L'Fay and Kleinfelds). after calling several (5) different shops on the east coast in search of a specific dress that was to be featured in berta's upcoming trunk show, i happened upon bridal beginnings where i was told they had ordered the dress. to say i was ecstatic would be an understatement. the woman (who id later find out to be the owner) booked my appointment over the phone, assuring me she ordered the dress, and that it was even lovelier in person. we spoke for a good 30 minutes and i couldn't wait to take the 2.5 hour trip there to see the dress in person.
fast forward to today, the day of the berta trunk show. my mother and i drive from cleveland to PA (2.5 hours) in a torrential blizzard, all to see this specific dress. we booked a hotel nearby and made a dinner reservation, also, in hopes to celebrate a special day. may i add that i have tried on approximately 28 dresses thus far (including several berta designs) so finding this dress was an extreme relief to me.
we walk into the store and i give my name to three older ladies behind the counter. one of the women says to me with a great big smile on her face "oh you had called about a specific berta gown! it actually didn't come in!". this woman spoke in such a nonchalant manner that i thought she was kidding. i laughed and continued to fill out a card she gave me with details of my wedding until i realized she was serious. at this point i was absolutely fuming. i was completely flabbergasted. we just drove 2.5 hours to see one dress and it isn't even here. may i add that when i had spoken to this woman (a good 2 months in advance) i asked her if i would be receiving a confirmation email in regards to my appointment to which she replied "oh no we will call you, we like to speak to you right before your big appointment!". well, i never got a call... so the day before my appointment i took it upon myself to call and confirm MY OWN APPOINTMENT MYSELF. you couldn't have told me then that the dress i inquired about didn't come in? she then tells me "he pulled the dress"... who is HE? i'm assuming she meant berta, in which case, SHE is a woman.
i continued to display my complete frustration and confusion with this woman, who had nothing but a head full of air. she continuously said to me "well you knew there was a chance it wouldn't come in" "well i didn't promise you" "i didn't know you liked it that much". i asked her over and over why didn't you call me? we drove all the way here for a specific dress and you knew that... never once did i hear an apology. what i did hear, honest to god, from a GROWN WOMAN was "i feel like you're being mean to me". i was shocked and embarrassed for her. newsflash: the customer is always right. either this lady forgot to order the dress, lied about ordering it, or hadn't the slightest idea how to deal with an unhappy customer (which, by judging from other reviews, you've had your fair share of.)
needless to say my mother asked if i even wanted to stay, which we did and i tried on two dresses (4 if you count 2 that the woman who helped me made me try on). by the way: the woman who helped me couldn't have been stuck further into lala land. not only did she leave the door open almost the entire time i was changing/ naked, but she gave me 5 inch heels to wear with my dresses and didn't even make a point to wait to help me off the platform in order not to break my neck. i was never asked a single question about myself, my style, my fiancé, or my wedding other than her asking where my venue was. not to mention: she never once used a clip or clamp to alter my dress. i'm 5' 115 lbs and 3 of the 4 dresses were hanging like burlap sacks on my body but clearly she couldn't be bothered. never once were we asked if we'd like something to drink. never once did we receive an apology, our coats to be hung, ANYTHING. we came in here ready to spend MUCH more than your average customer (judging by your clientele and the area) and you absolutely shit the bed. for the record; the $9,000 berta dress i ended up trying on was the least expensive dress i've tried on in my hunt to find a dress. even if i found a dress here, i wouldn't have bought it solely based on principle.
did i mention the woman whom i got into the argument with WAS THE OWNER. shame on you, i wish you nothing but bad karma.
EDIT: to prove this businesses lack of empathy and organization skills, i have yet to receive any sort of apology via email or phone call. i am truly disgusted with the service at this place. you people are absolute disgraces and i pity any bride who purchased her dress here.
