| - Fantastic museum. Went in the middle of summer when everyone is more interested in being outdoors for the precious few months of warmth (bit too warm for me, but I'm not heat tolerant). There wasn't any hugely popular touring exhibit, so between that and the season, it was delightfully uncrowded and a deliciously slow study could be made of the art.
This place is big (actually several buildings), and varied, and holds quite an eclectic collection, so if you really want to make a detailed art study, you'd need at least an entire day, really more than one.
I concentrated on the traditional art, especially focusing on the French impressionist collection. Here in the historically French part of Canada, for some reason it was such a treat to gaze into a Monet and view the actual chunks of paint applied by his own brush and hands. Of course that's a treat in any museum, but I do like the vast and varied curation at this particular museum. Spacious, flowing and clean, definitely try to hit it during off hours and not when there's a special popular exhibit with crowds--it's such a pleasurable and different experience that way.
