  • We are in town for spring training and this morning I was looking for a nice breakfast spot. I actually found Vovomeena mentioned in an online article listing the five best breakfast spots in Phoenix. We drove up and found quick parking and noticed that they were a fast casual restaurant in that you line up, order at the counter and seat yourself with a number to wait for your food to come out. This actually works very well for this restaurant in that they have a fairly small but eclectic menu (no substitutions please). We got there right in time as we only had one couple ahead of us in line and as we waited I saw an order of their biscuits and gravy get served up. My mind was made up, biscuits it would be. I chased it with their Japanese style ice coffee. The food came out quickly and it was delicious. The gravy had a rich peppery taste to it complimented by the big chunks of sausage generously smothered over a delicious split biscuit. As we ate the line at the counter grew to extend itself out the door. Now for those of you thinking that fast casual means little to no service, Vovomeena will prove you wrong. The food was brought out by a friendly food runner and as we were wrapping up our meal, I believe it was the manger, stopped by to ask us about our experience and chatted with us a while, answering my question about the name of the place. Meena being the nickname of the owners grandmother and Vovo being short for grandmother in Portuguese. It was an awesome breakfast and I would highly recommend it.
