WOW! I purchased a round trip ticket and went to DC to visit family. During my visit I got word that my mother was ill and in the hospital. After a couple days of talking back and forth with family and doctors I left DC and flew to Guatemala City right away. From Guatemala City I flew home, back to Phoenix, so I had an unused ticket from DC to Phoenix. As time went on I thought about it but never booked a flight anywhere since I had taken so much time off from work that I had no more vacation time available. A few weeks ago I found myself flying back to Guatemala City for my mothers funeral. Today 5/16/16 I called SWA because I knew it had been about a year and I needed to use my funds. Found out that my funds had expired on 4/28/16, two weeks ago. I stated "so I am just out my money, you get it?" she says "yes". So disappointing but their terms are their terms I suppose. She said that I forfeit them because I did not use them within a year of purchase. I guess I will have to just get my $181 back in peanuts and soda. However what struck me funny was her next comment that I can talk to customer service and pay a fee to reinstate some of my unused funds. She says "If you pay us $100 we can give you back $81" I laughed at her, saying, you want me to pay you $100 so you can give me $81? she says YES. I thought maybe she was joking, I kept laughing, but she was actually serious. She actually suggested that I pay them another $100 to get an $81 voucher, so in other words I pay $281 for an $81 voucher. Something wrong with this picture.
