| - Aside from Lotus of Siam, Thai restaurants in Las Vegas are a dime, a dozen. It's very difficult to differentiate Thai restaurants because after a couple of visits, they all start to meld into one another. Every restaurant offers pad thai and every restaurant offers some rendition of red, green, or yellow curry. But, at least Weera Thai attempts to satisfy both Americanized taste of Thai cuisine as well as bring in regionalized Thai tastes on their menu. For example, Weera Thai has an entire section of their menu dedicated to the Issan, northeastern region of Thailand.
In addition to lunch specials, I love that Weera Thai has a happy hour from 4-8 pm daily. Beers and wines are $3 and appetizers such as an assortment of different mussels, chicken wings, and soups are $5-6. My favorite was the tung thong, crispy fried dumplings with shrimp and chicken with a delicious, sweet chili sauce. For additional value to your meal, mobile check-in on Yelp nets you a free Thai iced tea (one per person).
As for dishes, I'm a creature of habit and although most Thai plates are the same throughout, I've had some pretty poorly cooked noodles (the ones that just come clumped together). The pad thai is better than your average in terms of freshness of ingredients. I've always found every single time I've ordered this dish, the chicken is overcooked and rubbery, but the peanuts, bean sprouts were all placed on the side for you to mix and egg and noodles were well done. The tom yum kai was also better than your average. The panang roast duck curry came highly recommended by the waiter and was full of coconut flavor. But, for some reason, it's hard to enjoy both flavors of the curry and the duck when both are too bold for one another to go together for me. Overall, I enjoyed Weera Thai and find it as a legitimate, cheaper alternative to Lotus of Siam.
