  • Really disappointed with our stay here. Bringing our son home from IU for the summer. Wanted to stop in Pittsburgh for the night to see some things in the area the next day / take a break from the drive. This location seemed the newest and better ranked than the Fairfield inns we normally stay in. We have loads of Marriott Rewards points from credit card spending but don't travel all that much. Getting into the room, I liked how wide the curtains were to block the light coming in from the sides in the morning.... But then in the morning with the light streaming in from the bottom (on a very overcast morning) was very disappointing - see the pictures. Did they frame out the windows too low when building the place? The HVAC limits them from using curtains that are longer at this point. And speaking of the HVAC unit - 1 of the 2 queen beds is very close to the HVAC unit. So you get the breeze blowing on you directly as you sleep. Then the bright light in the morning. So getting up early, I go down for breakfast. It's a Monday at 6:45 - at the front desk, I ask 'did you get today's USA today?' 'Uh, that comes around 7:30'. It's not like they are in the woods that it should come that late. I get the papers on my driveway in the suburbs before they do?! Breakfast - they have premade eggs loaded with pepper. Uh, can I get them without pepper - too spicy for me. No they are made off site. Uh, how about getting them plain and let people add seasoning to their taste? sarcasm I think some restaurants have salt and pepper shakers on them. I could be wrong. /sarcasm Fruit - some dried oranges (see picture). How about some variety? Belgium waffles - the batter was like a paste - barely came out of the dispenser, then once in the cup, you have to crumple it to get any batter out of the cup. Like dealing with a tube of toothpaste, which is more fluid than this batter. Being this thick, the resulting waffle was way too dense to be edible. I asked the woman tending to the food and she said 'I made it according to the directions on the bag'. My son and I walked next door to the Fairfield inn to get a real breakfast. They had a variety of fruit, waffle batter that actually flowed and UNSEASONED scrambled eggs. Packing up, my son notices a load of bites around his ankles and chest. He slept without a shirt. Did those come from the bed? Or walking between the hotels? He did have a shirt on for the walk. I'm usually the one that gets bites and I (sleeping in a different bed and walking outside with him) got NO bites. So it would seem the bites came from the bed? Fleas? Bedbugs? Trying to speak with the 'assistant general manager', they defended the paper coming as late as 8AM. 'That's a separate business'. When I brought up the flea / bed bug bites, they offer to have Ecolab come check the room. 'oh, ok, thanks. How soon do they come out?' 'I'll call them as soon as we get off the phone'. That doesn't answer my question. I hung up in frustration - they are comfortable with papers coming at 8AM and can't answer a question with even a ballpark of when the vendor would come out.
