| - In complete honesty, my wedding would have been absolutely perfect if Bowties hadn't screwed up with my dress. Throughout the process of buying my dress and getting alterations, I encountered a number of problems that I bit my tongue about because I normally avoid conflict at all costs. First of all, I was overcharged by hundreds of dollars for my alterations, which I actually talked them down on. I watched my best friend get the same alterations done for $430 less than I did at a different shop. In addition to this, my wishes were not often respected. I didn't want a certain seamstress because she was rude to me, constantly asking if I had gained weight when in reality I had lost every time. She looked disgusted when helping me into my dress, and was annoyed when I called her out about pinning my hem without putting my petticoat underneath my dress. She tried to leave it as it was, which was not okay given the volume that the petticoat added. The owner was rude to me when I interacted with her, and tried to charge me for things I had already paid for and told me that I was going to need to take my dress home a month before my wedding, though I was ensured by the person I had been working with that I could keep my dress there until right before my wedding.
My appointments seemed to always be forgotten, and I was never called as I was told I would be. I had to start calling them, rather than relying on them to keep me in the loop, as they were supposed to. It also clearly was not in anyone's interest to make me, the bride, happy. I made a fitting appointment and my maid of honor who was also getting married made one right after. We were supposed to do our appointments separately so we could let each other have our moments, but instead we were both rushed into rooms to put our dresses on at the same time, and then were put in different viewing rooms where we were completely cut off from each other. They wouldn't let us see each other until we really pushed for it, and they continued to rush us and act annoyed that they were working in the first place. It really took the joy out of the whole experience, as did all of the stressful events that came with dealing with this business.
My biggest grievance is that I was given the wrong petticoat for the day of my wedding. The petticoat that I was supposed to have clung to my waist and was extremely volumous. The one I was given was twice as wide as me and was nowhere near as big, which made my dress too long. I had no way of knowing this when I picked up everything, unfortunately, because they hung it up high and I couldn't tell that it was too wide, and given that I wasn't wearing it, I couldn't tell that it was both too big and not poofy enough. Because of this, we had to safety pin the petticoat on the day of my wedding and I had to hold up my dress all night. I was constantly tripping on it though it shouldn't have been too long, and I've already seen a number of pictures where my stomach looks lumpy because of the petticoat. The dress had always laid flat, so this was infuriating. Thanks to this mess up, I was not able to do the dip my husband had planned for the alter, and I had a lot of trouble throughout the entire evening just moving and dancing. On top of that, I felt gross because the dress was given to me smelling like fish.
The only positive thing that I have to say out of all of this is that I love Richelle, the woman I was mainly working with. She was always so kind and did pay attention to things like me asking for my dress not to be steamed ( given that there is a reputation for burning dresses, and a friend has actually experienced this.) Other than Richelle, I am completely dissatisfied. I was never a bridezilla, was always kind and flexible, and yet this all happened. Literally the only thing that went wrong on my wedding day was because of Bowties and Bridal.
I hope this helps anyone looking into the business. We are all entitled to our own opinions, but this has been my experience.
