| - BEWARE!!!!
I'll keep this short....but as a returning customer, and avid traveler the story is long and upsetting, as THE WORST travel service related experience of my life.
Picked up car after late arriving flight, no problem perceived at that time, but later learned that the charges I was prompted to cyber-sign for at the check-in were IN-ADDITION to my prepaid booking....even though I asked if the numbers on the screen were what I already paid for (via HOTWIRE) the car I booked.
-I was tricked into paying DOUBLE by a fast talking agent at the pick-up desk.
Hotwire makes it VERY easy for customers to choose the car grade and rate they are comfortable with and book/pay in advance, yet the agent didn't hesitate to immediately ring up "the car for me", and mislead me, even when questioned, into processing an overpriced "upgrade" of $16 per day PLUS all the fees & charges on TOP of my pre-paid booking.
(of course I realized this after the fact)
-Day one: Key lost
Can I replace the key? NOPE. Not possible. over an hour of precious vacation time spent on phones trying to find a logical way to get a replacement key, and they would allow nothing less than a replacement car delivery at a reported cost of $375.
Sadly...I don't have $375, so I spent the next two days searching for this missing key (that's worth more than some automobiles I've owned and loved), and taking cabs between my hotel and the park it went missing in
-Vacation comes near an end, and I'm left with no choice but to call back and deal with Budget's absurdity, and have the car (That I used less than two hours) towed and a new one dropped off for me to take back to the airport.
*edit out a bunch of shittiness from the tow truck driver and new annoyances, at that point*
-Back at the airport: Handed a non-itemized bill at drop off, for close to $300.
Go to the desk to find the exact source of these particular charges to learn that not only was I charged for the sneaky overpriced "upgrade" that I was issued at check-in, but I was charged for a full tank of gas in the car that was towed away (at over $9 per gallon).
I tried to get a fair reading on the actual amount of gas replaced, but it wasn't happening. I only went about 100 miles and I remember arriving at my destination and being impressed at how little gas this little Hundai apparently took, yet they were entirely un-willing to do the math with the mileage readings or prove in any way how much fuel was replaced after I used it.
I asked for a manager, and he took his sweet time coming out (it was clear by then, that they run this game, and KNOW that people have planes to catch instead of spend all day to try to get answers and fairness from this dirty agency). He was a smug little creep, and did me a "huge favor" by only charging me $77 for the 3-6 gallons of gas I was unable to replace in the car with the missing golden key.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND MAY VERY WELL RUIN YOUR VACATION, TOO!
Keys get lost. I pay .99 each, and have spares all over.....no key should put a person out of HUNDREDS of hard earned dollars. There's no reason in that!!!
I wouldn't even comfortably leave the house with hundreds of dollars of ANYTHING in my pocket. I don't know if it was picked, or slipped out of by purse/pocket, but even after previous positive experienced with Budget, I feel very robbed and resentful. This location is NO GOOD, and I will never recommend Hotwire again because of it, and I hope Budget gets a swift kick from my good friend KARMA.
