  • Know what's funny? When I'm a few clicks from Chinatown/SGV at home I rarely feel like eating dim sum. Send me to the epicenter of hookers, blow and blowing hookers and I instantly crave it like clockwork (the dim sum, not the prostitutes/drugs); it always hits right around 10:44am on the 1st morning waking up in Vegas. Pft, like I'm gonna leave the Strip to go get sum dim sum...no. NO! YOU CAN'T MAKE ME GET IN THE CAR! No-oh...there's a place in ARIA?! Okie =) Chinese-Thai fusion -- to my stomach that translates to: dim sum and satay. Asian soul food and tropical shee-at. I feel only the slightest bit bad because LG has been deserving of four stars my previous two visits but with the last one, well, let's just say third time was NOT the charm. Hehehekekekejajajaja. Amirite? Yah, I am totes rite. Aside from ordering your typical assortment of spherical balls of crap enveloped in cocoons of some sort of rice-based skin (as an Asian I feel pretty ashamed I don't even know what I'm talking about) such as har gow, pork bao, shao mai, turnip cake, etc. you can of course get Thai dishes. No lie, we've probably ordered 90% of the same thing each visit while sometimes changing it up and subbing out a dim sum plate for something else. Can I mention how cute the phrase daan taat is? Egg custard cups...they even look adorable. If I could personify this dish I'd want to squeeze its cheeks, slap it in the face then swiftly punt it into a wall because it's just too gosh darn ky00t. Daan taat in animal form is a maltese =) To regain focus on the foodles...the beef satay disappointed us this time around. In fact, most of the dim sum disappointed too. Did it taste skanky like a used diaper laced with pencil shavings? Nah, it tasted decent like always but the temp...argh. Such a seemingly simple aspect when serving food but tough to execute correctly on a consistent basis. All the dishes were either a couple of degrees above being lukewarm or getting dangerously close to flat out cold...clearly not the optimal temp to serve dim sum or meat on a stick in a pineapple under the sea. It's almost as though the carts were circling the depths of hell for a few mins too long...and by hell, I mean Lemongrass. And by mins, I mean a maybe a half-hour or so. The worst was the satay -- the surface temp completely turned me off since I felt like I was basically licking a cold cow popsicle...ahhhhh! It doesn't help that without fail, at least two people order the young coconut. 12 mothafluffin' dollars per...that's a 6 or 8 place bet in crapaud =( I mean, they're alright but I don't see what the big deal is with these stupid nuts. In particular on this last trip the examples we were served weren't ripe so it was tough to scrape the meat off and it wasn't exactly sweet flavored. Kinda slimy too, akin to squid...blech. Still, I won't let this deter me. Yes, you can bet your sweet fanny I'll be updating LG when I revisit in a few months. Plz to be turning the heat up a few degrees on your stoves and grils?
