| - To be a legitimate metropolis, a city must boast a quality Asian bakery. Without one, a city might as well accept the fact that it is simply a glorified suburb and invite its residents to mourn at the McCafé. (Okay, maybe I am making up arbitrary rules, but I think you will find that it is a pretty good test of a city.)
Las Vegas passes. We have several to choose from, but after visiting 4 of the local contenders, my vote for the best goes to Sunville. When I go to an Asian bakery, I only get one thing: red bean buns. The buns at Sunville come in a couple of varieties, doughy and flaky. No, those are not technical terms, but I hope you understand the distinction. I prefer doughy, as it isn't quite as dense, but that is a personal preference. The red bean paste inside is the right sweetness and consistency. I have been with guests who stray from the red bean bun, and they always rave about whatever sweets they purchase.
The prices are great; the variety is decent, and the size of the pastries is right. (Some of the other local places attempt to give you mini-pastries at mega-prices.) The only reason I am not giving Sunville 5 stars is because I reserve 5 stars for J.J. Bakery (http://www.jjbakeryusa.com), which in my world is a utopian Asian bakery.
