As an avid foodie and serious cook, I should be more impressed with St. Lawrence Market. I find I walk out of here spending heaps of money and the quality varies with where you're shopping. I find the vegetable stands on the main level at the front to be quite reasonable and carry a lot of seasonal goods. However, after traveling and visiting markets galore, I think that St. Lawrence leaves much to be desired. It's always crowded beyond belief with tourists who are just there to look. I think this is more what gets to me. when I think of St. Lawrence Market, I think: empty wallet, lots of people. I will venture here for things like Morels or some game meat, but failing these things, I don't have a huge reason to go.
Also, every market I've been to offers generous free samples. There seem to be none here and if they are, they're not monitored very closely and always seem old or gooey. I like to try before I buy-- especially in a place where there is so much selection and competition.
