  • I went to the Brooks Brother's store in Toronto on September 3rd and had a REALLY BAD EXPERIENCE! I first went to the women's section with my wife first and the service was excellent. After paying for her clothes I went to the men's section to check out the sale promotion, I was particularly interested in the non-iron shirts. I asked a sales representative about my size (this was my first time at a Brooks Brothers' store), he took my measurements and indicated the appropriate shirt sizes for me. I selected 4 shirts from the sales pile and directed myself to the fitting room. Just before entering the fitting room he got in the middle of the way like he wanted to say something, I said I'm going to try those shirts, and he said "I'm sorry but can't let people try all those shirts on sale that are inside the plastic, you already know your size so I will let ou try just one". After that I went to the fitting room and tried the shirt, which didn't fit me well, it was very baggy for my body. The sales person suggested that I should try the extra slim cut, and he said that most of those shirts were not on the promo, I personally didn't care whether or not they were on sale, I just wanted something that would look good on me. I chose 4 types and he brought all the shirts to a table located beside the fitting room and gave me one. I tried this shirt and it was the perfect size for me. I came to the table to get another shirt to try it out, and he said again that he couldn't let me try another shirt, that If I know my size there was no need to try another one. At this time I was VERY surprised by his attitude, because I thought that this non-try policy was related to the clothes on sale, which is understandable, but ALL THE clothes on the store? How I'm supposed to buy something that I don't even know if it looks good on myself? Well I don't know whether or not this was a Brooks Brothers' policy, but there was another senior man in the same fitting and he had at least a pile of 7 shirts that he was trying, served by another vendor. I'm not sure if he had a special treatment if it was just prejudice against me. Maybe that happened because I look too young to buy these kind of clothes (in fact I'm a young executive), and he thought that I wouldn't buy anything, or I wasn't going to spend too much money. I tried to argue with the sales representative and he said that if he had hundreds of clients trying all the shirts at the store would be a mess. I have been to many stores in many different countries, from low (H&M) to high quality, like giorgio armani, dulce & gabanna, in many different cities of the world (New York, Paris, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Toronto) and also many stores in my country (Brazil) . I'VE NEVER SEEN anything like that IN MY LIFE! I was going to try more clothes like pants, but I was so frustrated and embarrassed with his attitude that I quickly paid and left the store immediately. I must say that I'm NOT a picky customer AT ALL, and I don't require any kind of special treatment. I really don't care about special treatment (because I'm a marketing executive and I know that this is a customer retention strategy so It doesn't affect me). But I care when vendors are rude and non-sense, how can you buy clothes if you don't know how they look like? If it's the company's policy is to not let people try the clothes, there is not point of having a retail shop, they should sell everything on the internet.
