| - Best Karate Dojo in Scottsdale. Hands down. If you're looking for a place for your kids to take karate and gain defense skills, exercise and respect ... this is the place to go. I would not put my child in any other place. Tim a 7th (maybe 8th not sure) degree black belt and he knows karate like no other I've witnessed. Great teacher, perfect analogies for teaching and has a great attitude.
My daughter has gone here for a couple years. There are a ton of great things about it and the atmosphere. Not only will your kids learn proper ways to defend themselves and to stay in shape but they will also become better children/young adults by attending classes taught by Sensei Tim VanDenover. Let me explain ...
1. Respect - this is taught from the instant you walk into the dojo, in a nice welcoming, but stern way. Kids learn to respect sensei and learn to respect their peers, family, friends and teachers.
2. Actions have consequences. This is taught every single day during class.
3. Academic Achievement is very important to sensei and he demands this of his students. There is constant reminder, every single day about making sure kids fill out their academic achievement cards (doing good in school, doing homework without being told, doing extra karate practice at home, listening and being a good kid at home).
4. Responsibility - Every student is taught that they need to be responsible and that they are responsible for their actions. Not someone else, they are - as individuals.
TLDR: Stop looking around, this is the best place to take your kids for Karate. Even if your an adult his classes are top notch. He's even had some from UFC folks in there teaching a guest class or making an appearance every once in awhile. Rising Sun is where its at. Do yourself (and your kids) a favor and swing by and check it out.
