| - I've been coming to this Aveda Institute for about 2 years. I am usually the type to book an appointment in advance, but on some occasions I am able to get squeezed in on same-day notice. You check-in at the front desk, and step onto the hair salon floor (this school also has a separate focus on skincare, more on that later). Since I have incredibly short hair and it's a pretty complex cut for some of the students, I always expect to spend at least 1.5 to 2 hours for my cut. Remember that these are students, so every step they take must be approved by an instructor on the floor. So expect to be waiting for some periods of time to get the approval before moving on. As I write this review, the cost for a ladies cut is $19 flat, and includes, shampoo/cut with your complimentary stress-relieving rituals (mini facial, hands massage, and neck/shoulder rub.) I am absolutely in love with their stress-fix oils, I have 3 of these at home right now. After hearing your "vision" for your cut, the instructor and student will work on a plan for your haircut. After the cut is over, you will be asked for a short review of how your service was. I always think it's great! Now as for the skincare services, I've been here a few times for the 60-minute botanical facial. It is divine. You start off with a skincare consultation, discussing your concerns and what areas you'd like to target today. Then on to your complimentary foot soak & rub. Then you step into this area that is curtained-off from the others (the space includes other patrons who are separated by thick curtains, so be curteous about the noise that you may or may not make.) You change into a mini spa drape (I'm not sure what it's called at this time, but it's super soft and plush), lay on this super comfy & warm massage bed while being covered with blanket, and be prepared for a scalp & hands massage as your facial includes cleansing, steam & extractions, treatment & mask, toner & moisturizer, and sunscreen & eye cream. The environment is very serene as the lights are always dim and soothing relaxing music is playing in the background. (Many times I've had to keep myself from snoring.) After the service is complete, you change back into your clothes (which were stored in a super cute bin and out-of-the-way for everyone) and proceed to the waiting area where an instructor asks you how your services were. Now is the time to give a feedback, that will be informative for the student who serviced you. Afterwards, you go back to the front of the house and check-out. Many times, I pick up a few items to purchase if I liked them during my service. I've also had the manicure/pedicure service here, but will not be returning for that. These students usually focus on either skincare or hair for their careers, so for them to sometimes be working on nails, their nail tech skills are only subpar. My nail polish has started chipping within the same day, and would come out clumpy. Don't expect to have your cuticles pushed as well. All in all, Aveda Institute will be my go-to place for hair and skincare services, absolutely not for nail services. Plant-based products that are good for you, all those complimentary services for a fraction of the cost. Just remember to allot extra extra time for your services. Pamper on, ladies.
