| - I started coming to the Rampart Casino many years ago. I like the vibe because it's laid back. For years I've played and stayed in downtown Las Vegas and this casino is is like an upscale downtown casino... that's how I describe the vibe. This year I started staying here at the JW Marriott. For what I pay, it is far and away the best value for the money. In recent years I have stayed at the Four Seasons, Las Vegas, as well as the Bellagio, Palazzo, and Venetian. The JW Marriot is about a half-notch below the FS and close to equal the other three. It is not flashy or modern in the sense of the Cosmopolitan on the strip where beat music is constantly pumped through every space and millennials are everywhere in their bathing suits (yes, I've stayed there too).
JW Marriot Las Vegas is primarily a conventioneers spot. So to a millennial it may appear dated. It is classy and refined. The wi-fi works great, the pool is very clean and luxurious, sort of like a smaller version of the pool at the Mirage. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with large, soaking Jacuzzi tubs and showers with conventional and rain type shower heads. Plenty of room for the Mrs and me on the bathroom counter and a separate stall for the stool. The only negative in the bathroom for me was the missing shampoo. There was conditioner, body wash, hand soap and lotion, but not shampoo. The housekeeper told me they don't keep in on their carts, but I was given some eventually.
We found the bed to be comfy and it was easy to fall asleep and stay asleep in our bed. If you're in the Palms Tower, there is a separate valley all the way around the back of the property and they are slow to respond if you show up at 3:00 am. I am guessing conventioneers don't do that. It's a bit of a walk from the Palms Tower of even the Spa Tower to the casino. I suspect this is by design for the conventions which are the primary customers here. At the Palazzo, where it's all about vacation and gambling, when you get off the elevator, you are IN the casino. The font desk is at the bottom of the Spa Tower and it has it's own valet. So there is a casino valet and one for each tower.
I usually eat in the Casino restaurants - the buffet is one of the best in Las Vegas - but there are some restaurants in the hotel too. When we were there they seemed to be changing them around.
So, if you're looking for that flashy, loud Las Vegas weekend, don't come here. If you want comfort, exceptional customer service, and you don't mind hanging with some older people... stay and play at the JW Marriott and Rampart casino. For some reason this place has a lot of Jewish tourists so they put emphasis on certain Jewish holidays in the buffet. I don't play golf, but people who do have told me the golf course is something to behold. If you like to gamble, the sports book here is cool and they have Bingo. The table games are fair and most of the dealers have been working there over ten years so everyone is pretty chill. If you don't really care about the strip which is 10 miles away, you can jump next door to the Suncoast for a lot more casino action and a DuPar's restaurant. Or drive just a few miles (south on Rampart, then west on Charleston) and you can gamble and play at the Red Rock which is a very nice resort. I also like the proximity of this place to Downtown, just take the Summerlin expressway to 95 north and your on Fremont street in a bout 10-15 minutes.
This hotel definitely qualifies on luxury and comfort. Enjoy.
