I had some time to kill before my flight out and Premium Matcha Cafe Maiko was nearby so I decided to go on a quick dessert run. It was a cute little cafe with a good amount of tables and even a designated photo area with props.
I wanted to try a variety of items so I decided to get the Maiko Special ($7.50). For the record the menu didn't have ingredients listed or else I would not have ordered this item. This dessert has agar jelly, red bean, cereal, brown sugar syrup and matcha cake at the base and it is topped with soft serve, 2 mochi balls and a chestnut. For the soft serve, I decided to get the swirl which is Matcha soft serve with Vanilla soft serve.
I have mixed feelings for this dessert. I really wanted to like it but the only thing I enjoyed was the Matcha soft serve. It was a really premium green tea matcha flavor. The rest was a let down. The Vanilla soft serve was so basic, nothing special at all. The flavors does not compliment the Matcha well, whereas a Black Sesame flavor would have been perfect. The base was strange, like there was too much going on, in which none was impressive. The mochi ball and chestnut was lacking in flavor. Had I known it would be so disappointing for such a pricey item, I would have stuck to a basic Matcha Soft Serve on a cone.
Would I come back? Definitely not... but their Matcha Soft Serve is worth trying at least once.
