| - Prairie Girl is sort of my fantasy "Richie Rich" place: if I were a billionaire, I'd install one in my house, à la Richie Rich and his own private McDonalds. I live within walking distance of two other cupcake shops but will still commute on public transit to Prairie Girl, that's how un-freakin'-believable their cupcakes are.
My favourites are the banana cupcake with chocolate frosting and the carrot cupcake with cream cheese frosting (the double vanilla was actually too sweet for me, and that's saying a lot, considering I have a notorious sweet tooth). They're pricey but you get what you pay for: massive home-baked creations that will literally blow your mind, especially if you're the type who polished all the icing off your birthday cake as a kid. What's great about Prairie Girl is they treat both the cake and icing seriously, with ample quantities of both (other places, I've found, will do one far better than the other).
Prairie Girl also has a very friendly vibe, both staff and customers alike. Every time I go there, I wind up in a conversation with someone (either next in line or behind the counter) about our favourite Prairie Girl cupcakes and whether or not we'd be able to trick our friends by claiming to have baked them ourselves. My only complaint about Prairie Girl is that there is not one on my block.
