I had my own financing from Toyota Financing. I brought the preapproval in and was ready to buy a car. They immediately asked me to fill out a credit application and I showed the salesman my preapproval and stated I did not want my credit run again. He went to speak to someone and came back and said he just needed the form filled out. I concluded the transaction and assumed they used the financing I brought. Turns out they did not, they ran my credit and selected their own financing as I got a packet in the mail from Wells Fargo. I called Toyota financing and they confirmed that if they had used the Toyota Financing the lender would indeed be Toyota. So this dealership thinks it's okay to choose your financing for you (likely because they get something from it) and ignore your own preapprovals. I am looking into legal action or possible Atty General complaint.
