Took some family from out of town to Serenade after our hotpot dinner. It's nice that they close so late so we were able to enjoy some late night sweets. None of us have ever been to a Korean cafe and not familiar with these types of Asian desserts. We ordered the famous honey toast, green tea shaved ice and a caramel machiatto. The desserts were $9 each which I thought was a bit steep until I saw them come out. They were huge portions.
I've heard epic tales of the honey toast from Ichiza but this will be my first time having this dessert. It lived up to the hype-so fluffy on the inside, toasty & crispy on the outside and the honey added a wonderfully sweet and floral flavor. The toast was so large it could have used another small scoop of ice cream but other else no complaints!
The green tea shaved ice was an ordeal in itself to assemble and eat. I was wondering what was taking so long until I watched them make it with layer after layer of yummy goodness that complimented each other well. From red bean paste to corn flakes, it seemed like everything was in it and it nearly toppled over. There were 5 of us altogether that shared the desserts and we really enjoyed it. They were both light and we didn't leave with a tummy ache from overly sweetened and/or fattening desserts. Aside from the painfully slow service, I would def come back.
