Possible malpractice (either that or incompetence). On my first visit, they took xrays (no problem). On my second visit, only 6 months later, they wanted xrays again. I was concerned (I didn't think the American Dental Association recommended xrays again so soon), but I agreed to it. On my third visit, again 6 months later, I was prepared and had pulled up the guidelines of the ADA for reducing unnecessary exposure to radiation. For a return patient with no risk factors, xrays are recommended every 2-3 years. I refused the xrays. They then refused to have a dentist see me (all they'd do was have a hygienist clean my teeth). The dentist said he wouldn't see me because he "could look in my mouth but without xrays, it wouldn't do any good." I asked about the ADA recommendations, and he got mad that I knew about them. My concern is this: either they only want to make money and are willing to expose patients to unnecessary radiation to do it, or their dentists are so grossly incompetent that they are incapable of conducting an oral exam without the assistance of xrays.
