  • Where do I begin.... I am extremely disappointed with my experience here, especially after hearing all of the hype about Dr. Mary Deka. First of all, there were a handful of times when I could not get in to see Dr. Deka and ended up getting stuck with the Nurse Practitioner, Margaret. TERRIBLE BEDSIDE MANNER!!!! She also made me feel like she did not have a clue what she was doing. It was an absolute waste of my time going in to see her. The next time I had to get stuck with a NP, I insisted on seeing the other one (I cannot remember her name). She was very nice and I was initially pleased with the experience. However, a few hours after my appointment I received a phone call from her saying that she had read my Group B strep results wrong at the appointment, and that I did test positive for it. WTH?! How do you mess that up??? Now onto Mary Deka. I really liked her through most of my pregnancy because she comes across as very genuine and concerned. With that being said, it took a total 180 at my 38 week appt when she decided to finally let me know that she had a scheduled vacation over my due date. I was absolutely devastated!!! This being my first child, I was very attached to her and felt comfort knowing that she would be there with me for the delivery. I didn't even know how to react when she told me the news. Fast forward to after the delivery, which I ended up having to have a c-section. (Which seems to be a trend with the patients at Paradise Valley Ob-Gyn). My incision ended up getting infected, and unfortunately since Dr. Deka was on vacation, I had to see the NP. Once Dr. Deka was back from vaca I was actually happy to be able to set up an appt with her. As I waited in her office with my husband to get my incision checked out, Dr. Newman walks in and says "Dr. Deka is going to be awhile, is it ok if I just check it out?" Well my husband had taken off work for the morning and I did not want him to go in too late, so I let Dr. Newman look at it. I figured Dr. Deka was at the hospital delivering a baby or something. But when we walked out of the room, I saw her down the hall on her computer. Seriously?? She couldn't step away from it for the 2 minutes it would take to look at my incision??? Ok, end rant. Sorry it was so long, but I just want people to understand the horrors of this place.
