| - My husband and I just moved to the area from DC (but grew up in Northern California and love wine). We brought my mom who was visiting from Cali. The atmosphere was quite nice. We got there about 4pm on a Sunday and it wasn't busy. We had our pick of seats, with only about 6-8 other people dining there.
Pros:
- Daily Happy Hours
- Good ambiance.
- Music was at a good level for easy conversation and we enjoyed our wine.
- They had a pretty good selection for happy hour and I enjoyed my Angeline Pinot Noir, and my husband liked his New Zealand Longboard Sauv Blanc.
- We liked the caprese salad and the kettle chips.
- When we left they had brought on a host (assuming they get busier in the evenings) who was very friendly and said goodbye as we left.
Cons:
- A BIG PET PEEVE of mine, however, is staff eating in plain sight of guests, which is exactly what was going on. One server was eating at the inside end of the bar, licking her fingers. I'm thinking that if a food inspector came in, he/she would definitely have a problem with that. Ewww.
- The staff was friendly but there was a feeling that they were doing the minimum to check-in on us, and were mostly hanging out off to the side of the bar close to the kitchen doors. I'm not sure if they were "quite relaxed" because the place wasn't busy, or if they just needed to be told by management to step it up a bit. They took care of us, but the service was just so-so.
- We were there about an hour and a half, but never saw the presence of a manager.
- Grilled artichokes are usually my favorite everywhere, but this one was undercooked where about a 1/3 of the leaves were hard and difficult to bite.
I do plan to go back, as I love local wine bars and am more than willing to give it another go.
