  • Very hipster-y vibe. But it won't matter if that's not your scene because everyone here is cool and laid back, and the drinks are great. I had the iced dirty chai and my fiancĂ© had a cappuccino. Both were absolutely delicious. The iced dirty chai was really refreshing on a hot day like today. I walked in not really feeling like drinking something hot since I was already sweaty and this drink was the perfect solution. My fiance's cappuccino brought us back to the little cafes of Italy. The foam was just right, and the coffee was perfect - not bitter. The prices are a bit steep, we paid about $9 for our two drinks. However, you will pay about the same price at that national coffee chain. But what you get there are over-sugary drinks piled with whipped cream and caramel to disguise the fact that the coffee itself is nothing to brag about. At Cartel, I noticed that they roast the beans here, the employees look generally happy, the plastic cups that the iced drinks come in are made from 50% post consumer recycled plastic bottles, the straws are made from plants (?!), the cappuccino (to stay) is served in real cups like it is in Europe, and you are helping a local business thrive. I'll be back!
