  • Mayrand is similar to Costco but specialized in everything food related. After quickly driving past it, the name "Resto-Depot" didn't click immediately. I actually thought it was supermarket with a restaurant inside. If you're a fan of kitchen supplies, bulk sizing such as 30lb buckets of mayo, entire wheels of cheese the size of truck tires or perhaps seeking the largest box of frozen burger patties for your next bbq party, you'll be well amused. Although most people who benefit from such offerings are business owners, the average single person can still shop here and find great things. There is an assortment of fresh produce, fruits and vegetables, a deli/cheese counter, butcher and seafood counter where everything is sold by weight so you can buy as little or as much as you like. There's also a bakery on site with goods made daily that come in reasonable portions. Most other items are industrial sizes, ideal if you have a spare freezer or a large family. The place has a lot of potential, it's a brand new building that opened less than a year ago. It's more colorful and more appealing than your typical Costco, the parking has a roof so no matter the weather, your car and your groceries are protected. Somehow Mayrand didn't blow me a away, the prices aren't cheap and certain food items were not fresh. We came by on a Sunday, not sure if we were left with old stock, but we noticed many meat and cheese items were on liquidation because there were expiring either the day of, or next day. I was disappointed to see curd cheese (poutine cheese) in the fridge when it was days old, when it normally should be left un-refrigerated otherwise it loses it's fresh squeakiness. We also got a steak that was marinated and I'm starting to think it was already past due which is why they covered it with seasonings as it was NOT good. I'd give it another chance but if I were to compare this to Costco or a regular supermarket, there's no reason for me to choose Mayrand. Note- They do not accept credit cards.
