| - Sad, sad day. I had been wanting to try this place since it first opened. I went tonight and was greatly disappointed.
Before I saw the bill, I thought about giving it two stars. Just thought. But paying $4.25 for a pint of Bud Light, on a Sunday after 9 pm, seems alien to me. How many places, first of all, have happy hour after 9 or even all day Sunday? Plenty. And who charges $4.25 for a pint of Bud Light in the first place? For a pub, I was also saddened that they only have one size of beer.
Onto the food.
My husband and I decided to share the chicken tortilla soup- a favorite appetizer which we try to order wherever we go, when available. There was so much salt that it left a burning sensation on my tongue and lips. That's all I could taste- salt! And there was no avocado. Disappointment.
Onto the meals. I usually never do this, but I sent my food back. Actually, I don't think I've ever done that before. I got a turkey and avocado sandwich. Can't be hard to mess up, or so I thought. The first bite I took, I couldn't help but think... so bland. Upon further investigation, the turkey tasted old. The avocado had black and/or brown spots all over it. And the bread... I could have bought better tasting bread from a dollar store. The french fries that came with it had NO flavor at all- just mush! Tasted like a microwaved potato slices.
My husband got the Shepard's Pie. Again, bland. One chunk of meat was pure fat. Pieces I got were tender and fine, but again, bland. We had never had that meal before, and weren't sure what it was suppose to taste like. Online recipes show veggies- onions, peas (a decent amount of them, too), and celery. I couldn't define any of those in the meal he got. We joked that this meal is what Chef Gordon Ramsey defines as, "A dog's dinner." We only ate it because we were hungry.
At first, I thought the service would save us. The first few times the waitress came around, she was great. But after my meal came, and I realized I wanted to return it, I didn't see her for almost, or at least, ten minutes. I just sat there not eating, poking around at my hubby's pie. She was nice but the fact that I sat there for so long was... lame. I was obviously not eating; she even walked by me.
I don't want to write this to be mean. I was just so disappointed because my husband and I flipped a coin to decide going here or to San Tan Brewing Co, another place we wanted to try. I think the owner needs to seriously look into his changes- seeing as how a regular customer Yelped about the downturn of this restaurant in the past year. We may have just visited too late.
Arg, my tongue is still burning from the salted soup. ::droopy dog voice:: boo hoo.
