  • I moved from California in May of 2015 and wanted to find a good place to train. I had visited a few other local gyms to see which one fit my particular needs. When I went in to check out Carlos Farias Jiu Jitsu I felt right away like this is the place I would want to train. His wife so friendly and gave me a really good description of the training and more importantly, the family like atmosphere. I decided to try the gym out for a week just to make sure it was everything I was hoping for, and it certainly was. I ended up signing up after my second class because I felt so at home. I had trained at several gyms over the last decade in Southern California and liked some, but didn't care for others. My experience had been that the larger, more commercial gyms just want the money and don't appreciate the sport. I tend to like smaller to mid-sized gyms that primarily focus on BJJ and have stability with the coaching. Carlos is not only a great coach, but a great person. The techniques he teaches are not only focused on detail, but are also up-to-date with more modern BJJ. I think the reason this gym is so good is because Carlos competes, a good portion of the students compete, and I have yet to meet anyone with ego. As an outsider at other gyms sometimes you can tell guys are gunning for you or that you will get hurt because people don't train properly. That is not the case here. Everyone I've met is friendly and anxious to help each other improve. If you really love BJJ and want a great place to train you should come to Carlos. I'm looking forward to getting both of my sons into his classes as they start to reach that age!
