I was really excited to relive my memorable NYC experience of a few years ago. Sadly, I was extremely underwhelmed and disappointed that they don't live up to my memories.
I ordered the regular sized gyro and my boyfriend ordered the combo plate which has gyro and chicken. The plate comes with more rice and salad than meat, and some stale pieces of pita bread. The meat was tasty, but a tad on the dry side. They give you that white sauce, and a smattering of hot sauce. But neither of those were enough to add moisture to the meal. I remember the white sauce being so amazing in NYC, that someone stole a whole bottle of it right off the food cart when I ate there.
The place was packed, and the air conditioning was on full blast. My meal got cold about halfway through, due to the extreme temperature. For the price they are charging, I was expecting a mountain of meat, but I finished it all before all the rice and salad was the bulk of the plate. Iceberg lettuce and tomatoes does not a salad make.
No offense to the franchise, but the NYC food cart experience is unparalleled.
