| - We decided on a little staycation over Labor Day. I used some rewards points through work and grabbed this hotel for 2 nights. It was cheap, and our intent was to grab some food at places out on the East Side, use the pool, and pretty much relax for a few days. Um....didn't really work out that way! Here are the good and the bad about this place.............
Good
- Cheap! Got the room for what equated to about $100.00 worth of "points" for 2 nights.
- Friendly staff. Interacted with them during check in, to get pool towels, buy a soda from the little "store" they have at the front counter and during checkout. All friendly!
- Large room! We got a King suite. It had a desk sitting area, a 4 seat couch, a nice Samsung TV a King bed and a separate toilet/shower/vanity area. Not bad!
- Close to a ton of restaurants! Literally, across the street from the mall which has a ton of options.
- Plentiful and free parking.
- Free breakfast! Muffins, bagels, cereal, milk, fruit, waffle station etc. It was stocked well, and was possibly the best part of the stay.
Bad
- Our room smelled like piss. Like, straight up piss and it was coming from the A/C. Not sure if someone literally pissed in the filters of the A/C unit or what, but it was not a pleasant smell.
- The bed. Didn't sleep well at all on it. Comfy pillows, but the bed itself was not comfortable at all. My wife said the same thing.
- The floor. With white socks on, walking on the floor in the room, our socks turned black. Yeah...pretty nasty. The carpets could definitely use a steam cleaning!
- The pool. The pool was small. We went in it for about 30 minutes, but that was it. It was a little bit dirty, too. Tons of bugs floating in it, and it looked like it could use a nice cleaning. Also, they were out of pool towels when we went in and we had to go to the front desk to get some.
- Pretty thin walls. We had people above us (we were on the 2nd floor) and it reminded me of apartment life, back in the day. You could hear every step, and people out in the halls etc.
- Housekeeping. The lack of it. We left our room at around 10am on Sunday, and got back at almost 2 pm, and our room wasn't touched. It worked out though seeing is we left early.
So......we really weren't feeling this place, and paired with the crappy bed and the piss smell, we decided to cut our visit a night short. We had it booked for Sat and Sunday night, but we bailed around 4pm Sunday afternoon. There was really no point in staying there another night. Our house is way more comfy and doesn't smell like piss ;-).
Was it the worst hotel stay ever? No. Would I come back? Eh...probably not, but I wouldn't absolutely rule it out. The price can't be beat, the rooms are big, and its location is solid. The bed was horrible though, and the cleanliness of the floors/pool etc were a huge turnoff. This hotel was definitely 2 stars "Meh...I've experienced better."
