  • This dental group was recommended by my insurance after we changed at the start of the new year. I made an appointment for me and for my husband. The office called and rescheduled my appointment twice, which was inconvenient, but whatever. My cleaning went ok (the hygienist was great!), but the dentist tried to tell me I needed braces to prevent plaque from forming between my teeth. This was the first time in my life anyone had suggested braces to me - in fact, almost everyone I meet tells me what a nice smile I have and asks if I did have braces. As I said though, my appointment went fine overall. My husband went in, however, and we're unhappy with the service he's received from Adam Schafer. First of all, apparently within 6 months (since his last checkup), his oral health has declined so much that he needed 4 crowns, which he had done, so now we're in debt for the cost of that procedure: $2,000. But, what has to be done, has to be done. The dentist told him he'd be a bit sore for a couple days, however, he felt extreme pain as soon as the numbing sensation began to wear off. He couldn't chew, sleep, talk, or move without it hurting. So I called in and requested an analgesic. A different doctor wrote a prescription for him, no big deal. He was given vicodin, which helped him immensely. About 4 or 5 days later, he ran out and was still in pain, so I called in again, and received a prescription. The same thing happened a week later, so the dentist asked him to make an appointment with the endodontist to make sure he didn't need a root canal, and he did. The endodontist said he'd most likely be in pretty bad pain for 6 weeks. In all, he was written 3 prescriptions for vicodin over the course of about 3 weeks. He's still in pain and I called to request another prescription, but because they'd already refilled it twice, Schafer refuses. Apparently that's their policy, because it sure isn't the law (or ethical, really, if a patient is in pain). Instead we were instructed to take ibuprofen (which he's been taking since the day of his surgery) and 2 Tylenol because Schafer wouldn't write another prescription. We tried for days using the recommended analgesics, and he's still in pain. He has to talk to clients all day, which causes him jaw pain and headaches, it hurts to chew, and he wakes up a few times every night to take Tylenol and ibuprofen to ease the pain (which it doesn't). In fact, I'm on my way to get a 3rd bottle of ibuprofen. I called and explained this to the staff (who makes me feel like I'm annoying them for even calling), and the doctor still refuses. Apparently he's more concerned about contributing to the opioid epidemic than treating his clients' pain. He has the ability to look at all of the past history of his clients' opioid prescriptions, and if he did that, he'd see that my husband does not have a history of excessive prescriptions. I'm so disappointed in this dentist and do not plan on going back. God forbid, someone has pain and asks you to treat it. As far as the pros, the office is clean and pretty advanced technologically-speaking. I would not recommend Adam Schafer because he's not concerned with his clients' well-being.
