| - this place is a must try at least once for ANY animal fan. Brought my toddler here for an afternoon winter escape, and it went very well, there's even a small playhouse half way in by the turtle pond who are way over feed from the coin operated pellet vending machine nearby. They even put enough benches and a water fountain for the tired parents to watch the gators as their kids run around. Every Yelper was correct this place is not that big and if you just walk it easily takes 15-20 mins to get back to the start, but if you're like me it's 5 mins per snake and 30 mins for the cute like baby crocs!
****essentials: you must watch at least one feeding, do a package upgrade for behind the scenes, there were a few options and it was not advertised, they need to fix that.
we saw the asian monitor at the entrance get fed and even chase a skinned mouse(gross but the kids didn't seem to mind), the handler even went into the tiny display to hide some raw salmon for it to find. they kept the crowd well organized, kids at the front and some kneeling so others behind could easily see, so big kuddos to that effort. after the feeding they advertise there are behind the scene tours, max 10 ppl(which is a lot, 6 should be the cap imo). we signed up as it's only an extra $10/pp( i saw another tour but that was vip, no clue how to get that offer), he took us into the kitchen to get some food like big leafy kale for tortoise and worms for the frogs. we got to go literally behind the scene which is neat, but really crampy space so we had to walk single file and even then it felt tight. we got to feed some animals, pet a few and even hopped into the tortoise space and got peed on by the baby dwarf caiman. what really scared me from that tour was the venomous snakes cages had labels written on painters tape, SERIOUSLY it needs to be duct taped and neon paint those doors!!!
stopped in briefly for the auditorium show but it was really packed and my kiddo got impatient so we left after an already long day. the washrooms are themed and they have a really nice gift store, perfect for the starting hobbyist did not notice any food vendors or cafeteria option. no locker options either, just a few rolling coat racks. so come prepared to carry or leave it in the car.
we will definately be returning yearly and might do a birthday party option here one day.
