  • I've been anxiously awaiting the grand opening of SuperCharge! Foods, and today was the day. I've been a huge fan of the sunflower sprouts that owner and grower TJ used to bring in to Jewel in the Lotus (brief moment of silence, and one more silent tear for that studio's closing) that I could snack on while working. Now they are available just around the corner from where I live. Not just juicy, nutty sunflower sprouts, but a ton more delicious sprout varieties and life enhancing cold pressed fruit, veggie and herb juice blends, named after the local neighborhoods in Madison. Today I sampled the Tenney -- a carrot, orange, ginger, turmeric blend; The Emerson, which tastes like the best cole slaw you've ever had, due to the red cabbage; and the Marquette, the cucumber, kale, parsley and other green things blend. The one I thought I would hate was actually my favorite. OMG! Sign me up for Marquette, I'm sold! There is seating in the glass walled storefront with free wifi, lots of barrels and tubs full of flowers and herbs outside, so it's a nice little oasis of nature on this very urban street corner. Rustic reclaimed wood and upcycled metal bucket lamps inside lend charm to the otherwise formerly bland retail space. They also make kombucha (not my thing, I passed on sampling that), chia seed energy balls (fan-fricken-tastic!), cold coffee, and soon to come, yoga classes by Aum Aubree (formerly of Jewel in the Lotus). There's also a smaller room that can be rented by the hour for private sessions of massage or other therapies. The sprout growing room is on the premises and easily visible through several windows. The juices are made to order, so if you prefer your Tenney with a little more kick, ask for more ginger. Do yourself and your body a favor and give them the business! You'll feel...supercharged. Aha!!!!
