  • *clears throat * Wow. This is a top-notch festival, from food to atmosphere; to organization to location to band selection, this festival hits it out of the park. There are many paragraphs could write here about the Calgary Folk Music Festival, but it's probably wiser that I tell you how this festival rocks (pun intended) via point form. 1. It's organized, thought up and executed almost exclusively by volunteers 2. The band selection is excellent (big names mixed with new and independent bands) 3. There are six (!) stages, so you'll never miss seeing or hearing something very cool 4. During the day, they do mash-ups of bands with similar styles; this makes for concerts, and sounds, that you will probably never ever see or hear again 5. There is a wide variety of genres (from folksy folk to R&B) 6. The organization of putting your tarp down at mainstage is excellent and fair and once you have mainstage 'home base' established, it is yours for the day and no-one touches your stuff (like camping) 7. The food is excellent 8. Everyone is from the ticket distributors to the security at the festival are friendly and helpful (especially Penny who found me a Saturday ticket!! Ask and I'll tell you how much she rules!) All in all you are in for a treat at the Calgary Folk Fest, great music, great vibe, great people. Get your tickets early, the bracelets (and Saturday) sell out very fast. I must explain after a review like this why I took a star off. There weren't nearly enough washrooms available for the amount of people. This made for horrendously long lines at both the port-o-potties and ladies flush toilets. Since we all know women take longer in the washroom than men, the male flush toilets bathroom as virtually empty the entire festival while the women's was lined for up to 45 minutes. (A few times, I used the guys washroom to save time). I would recommend more bathrooms next year, but besides that, keep this festival exactly the same please. T.
