  • While I"m not quite as obsessed as George Clooney is at reaching 10 million miles in "Up in the Air," I've got a pretty good system down when it comes to my weekly travels. For flights less than 3 hrs I take Southwest since Midway sure beat O'hare...and then I get to keep my permanent A list status. However, when it comes to flights over 3 hrs I brave O'hare for United since it's definitely a more pleasant flying experience than flying Southwest. When it came time to book a trip to Toronto I gave up my United miles to try this Porter Airlines that my colleagues* can't stop raving about. I'm a bit of a nervous traveler so I'm usually wary of airlines I haven't heard of, but loved that it flies out of Midway and into the Toronto City Airport** located just minutes from my hotel. Score!! I arrived at the gate about 45 minutes before my flight and noticed I was the only person sitting there. It seemed a bit odd so I double-checked that I was in the right place...yep, I was. I sent Porter fan, Kevin L, a quick IM asking him if he thought it was weird that no one else was going to be on my flight. His response "Nope- that's normal. That's what makes Porter so great!!" Hmmm...strange. I ended up sharing the plane with 3 other travelers. There were more flight attendants (dressed in super cute outfits) than travelers and I couldn't help wonder how this airline was staying in business. And I continued wondering when they offered me a free meal, which I'm pretty sure hasn't happened since 1998. Fortunately, when I flew back on Friday my flight was a bit more than half full, although considering it was a holiday weekend in Canada it probably should have been sold out. I'm a bit worried if Porter is going to be able to make it due to the lack of travelers, but I can see why my colleagues are a fan. Sweet flight attendants+ free food+ lots of legroom due to lack of travelers! Even George Clooney may give up some of his miles for this experience. -------------------------------------- * Rave review from colleague, Kevin L: http://www.yelp.ca/biz/porter-airlines-toronto#hrid:5OoioL4DxjiTUqQO9H-CwQ ** Toronto City Airport: http://www.yelp.ca/biz/billy-bishop-toronto-city-airport-toronto#hrid:Apn27TbbjE5EJqR0oFoI8Q
