| - The Ten Spot looks pretty chic and fancy on the inside, and prices you pay for services clearly reflect that. Despite the fact that service is pretty decent i.e. the staff are pretty nice, attentive and friendly (albeit a bit disorganized), the actual quality of the work is subpar especially considering the exorbitant prices. I got a regular manicure and pedicure (not shellac) just using regular old OPI nail polish, and when I went to cash out, my total came up to $90+ which was ridiculous. I've been to a few other places in Toronto for a mani-pedi combo and at most it was around $75, and this was with a shellac mani. Given how expensive it was, you'd expect the work to be AMAZING, but... it's not. Even from the beginning, I thought the girl didn't paint close enough to my cuticle, so there was a bit of a gap there from the start. The sides were also a bit uneven, although not like there was polish touching my skin or anything. The worst part of it is that less than one week later, random parts have started chipping and flaking off. For reference, polish usually tends to last a pretty long time on me before chipping (1.5-2 weeks regular polish, up to 3-4 weeks shellac or gel) so this is pretty disappointing. Maybe the base/top coat they use isn't good? All in all, I feel like I could have gotten similar or better results just painting my nails myself at home. My pedicure turned out well, but I thought the leg scrub was a little lacking. My friend who got a gel manicure also said hers started chipping after less than a week, which has never happened to her before. They do try to add in a few little complimentary services, like free toe waxing (wasn't applicable for me so I can't comment) and coating your toes in Vaseline and wrapping them in plastic before you put your shoes on, but for me it still wasn't enough to justify the price. It's a shame, because all the staff here really are quite lovely and it's a nice, brightly lit, very clean shop, and they do really try to make you feel comfortable by offering you water or coffee or apparently even cocktails if you want. At the end of the day though, I'm paying mostly for the nail services, and in that respect I have to say I've experienced a lot better.
