| - Just wanted to write a quick review of this place. First let me go back a few years... Went to this place (when it was at another location on/around 43rd Ave), sat down to wait for a cut. I made sure the barber knew that I wanted a cut. Worked a long day, so got there about an hour or so before they closed. Planned in advance... The barber was so busy talking to his friends & letting ppl "cut in line" that next thing I knew it was closing time & he refused to cut my hair because he was ready to go home (it grows to a mini-fro, I like to get it trimmed down either halfway or to a low cut with tapers in the back/sides)... In other words, when I finally do go for a haircut, it's because my hair is looking rough & whenever I decide to come out of pocket when money is already tight, it is usually right before I have an important event to attend... In this instance, I was out of luck & left empty-handed after spending about an hour waiting (the barber left without even cutting my hair).
Fast-forward to March, 2013. I called my current "barber" (AL) several days in advance to get the hours+his schedule so that I could plan accordingly (IN ADVANCE) & get my hair cut before a big interview that was to take place on the following week... At the time, I had no car (it was stolen the prior month) & this was a very rough time in my life. Even before my car was stolen, I was working horrible hours which made it next to impossible to get to him as the new location of this shop (83rd & Indian School) is a hike from where I live... Needless to say, I hadn't had a cut in weeks & I definitely didn't want to go into this important interview the following week looking crazy. Well I told him I would be coming in on Sunday after church, he agreed, & just as my ride is getting me on the freeway to head out to the shop, I call him & he casually says that he didn't even go in today... Mind you, this is later in the afternoon & he had ALL DAY to be professional & contact me in advance to advise me that he wasn't going in (so that I wouldn't be having someone else burning up gas driving me all the way out there for nothing).... Funny thing is, when I called, I heard the tv in the background & all this stuff & he sounded just fine 2 days before. He even sounded fine when he answered the phone, but claimed he was not feeling well.
Whatever the case, he stood me up & this is someone i've been going to for YEARS. I actually started going to him when he worked at another shop that was MUCH closer & being the faithful client that I am, I stuck with him even when he made the decision to work at this other shop which A. was MUCH farther away & B. already had a bad rep as far as I was concerned... Just as a last resort, I called the shop to see if I could POSSIBLY sit in somebody elses chair this one time & they have this old-school ghetto answering machine that comes on & it sounds like someone answers while it's coming on but they say nothing & don't call you back.... Just horrible & so unprofessional. I thought I had finally found a shop/barber that wasn't arrogant/irresponsible & actually cared about the return customers/clients, but I was wrong.
Anyhow, i'm not going back to this shop & i'm DEFINITELY not sitting in his chair ever again, regardless of what shop he works at. Sad that he could find all kinds of ways to call/text me when he needed the few extra dollars on a certain week (because nobody else was trying to sit in his chair & take a chance on him messing up their line like he did to me several times before he got the hang of it), but in this instance when I DESPERATELY needed a cut, he couldn't be professional enough to at least call/text me to let me know that he wouldn't be in... Now I have to go into my interview looking crazy because few (if ANY) other shops are open on Sundays & there is no humanly possible way I can make it in to any of them that might be open on Monday (the interview is early Tuesday morning)... Thanks Another Level... You just lost one, & you can thank one of your barbers for that (actually TWO of them if we count the 1st incident).
