  • My neighbor flagged me down today because I work for a competing HVAC company to see if I would look at her a/c system. I told her that I couldn't look at it without her booking a service call through my office. She proceeded to tell me that her landlord had her home warranty company send someone out to fix they a/c earlier in the day, and that it still wasn't working. As I was talking I glanced over and notice that the tech had obviously changed the compressor out because he left the old one sitting there, along with all his trash. By the sound you could hear that the newly installed compressor was not running. Also he didn't put the cover back on and you could see that he installed a used compressor. He didn't install a liquid line dryer which is supposed to be replaced every time the system is open to atmosphere. There is refrigerant oil every where, which is signs that the refrigerant wasn't properly recovered per E.P.A. standards. I told her to check with the neighbors to see if they will review their security cameras and if in fact he did vent refrigerant to atmosphere to submit the video to the E.P.A. along with a complaint. I asked her if she had seen what color the tank of refrigerant was that he had used to charge the system and she a bright orangish-red color. That indicates that he may have charged with R-410a and her system is R-22, which should have been a green tank. I asked her if they left any paperwork and if they did to call the number on it. She did while I was standing there and of course they were closed and it gave an emergency option which she chose and it said that option was unavailable because the box was full. I told her to have we landlord call first thing in the morning and to take pictures of everything and if they didn't get it resolved a.s.a.p. to take all the documentation to the Nevada State Contractors Board. This folks is why you should never rely on these shady home warranty companies and their contractors. I run into these complaints daily! This time it just happened to be my neighbor.
