I am a long time fan of See's Candies. The company started on the West coast and has been slow (other the a holiday's kiosk) to make their way to the Burgh. I was elated to see this new store in the Ross Park Mall. I will no longer have to pick these treats up when I travel.
See's Candies has a long history. It was founded by Charles See and his wife Florence and his mother Mary in Los Angeles, California back in 1921. Mother Mary developed the recipes that are the foundation of the business. The clean, black and white shop was designed to resemble Mary See's own kitchen. In 1972, the See's family sold the company to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. But they strive to maintain the old fashioned values of the See family. These are some of the most delicious chocolates you will ever taste.
This store is typical of See's. My favorite part of each visit is a free sample at the counter. It's fun to pick the individual chocolates from the case. But I am more likely to do directly to the already boxed candies and select the nuts and chews. It's my favorite. Another thing I like about See's is the holiday chocolates. They always have special treats for Autumn, Christmas and Easter. And I love the friendly service.
