| - Trader Joe's gets a visit from me at least weekly, if not twice a week. I don't even check in here as often as I actually visit because I know everyone would think I was insane.
I won't tell you my favorite products because then they will be out of stock when I visit and then I will have to come back yet another time.
However, here are a few tips for your TJ virgins or regulars who may have missed them:
1.) Fresh cut flowers here are gorgeous and generally run between $3.99 and $9.99 a bunch. Ladies, treat yourself to a bunch of flowers. Gentlemen, treat your Ladies. For under $10 you can brighten someone's day (even your own).
2.) When the Fearless Flyer makes it way into your mailbox, the store is likely sampling many of those products (if not all) that week. So, if you've been dying to try something, but couldn't commit without tasting it first... there's your chance to try before you buy!
3.) If something LOOKS like your favorite overpriced brand and the ingredient list is the same or nearly identical, it is more than likely the same thing. TJs doesn't make ANYTHING themselves. They have agreements with many different vendors to get you the products you love, often at a reduced price. Of course, they are branded differently because who would want you to know they were selling the same product at Whole Foods for 40% more?!
I have been going to Trader Joe's since the late 80s when I lived in South Pasadena.
Do they have everything? No. In fact, it drives me mad that they do not have marshmallows because when I make rice krispy treats (with all TJ brand products) I have to stop into Safeway. However, they have a lot of GREAT products at good prices.
The employees are always friendly (and, surprisingly great baggers).
My DD loves TJ because if she finds one of the bunnies hidden in the store (and, currently, the Golden Egg), she gets to pick out a treat on our way out. She also loves the picture cutouts they have at their entrance and often forces me to take her picture before she will go inside. The little things are what count!
I love you Trader Joe's.
