  • I went to Aztec because my 11 yr old mini dachshund had 2 lumps on her belly and she needed her yearly immunizations. I requested a biopsy to determine if the masses were cancerous. The initial "work order" I signed said that they would do a biopsy and give her immunizations. I waited for over 2 weeks and never heard from the vet. Finally, I called them and Dr. Flores said that indeed the masses were dangerous and needed to be taken out. He told me to bring her in the following Monday for surgery. What?? So before having any further information he wanted to cut into my dog and excise the masses. I then requested my dogs information from the vet and discovered that she never received her immunizations even though I signed for them. Furthermore, they never did a biopsy. They did a cytology instead without consulting me because it's "easier". Once again, I never signed for a cytology. I took her to a new vet and she agreed that indeed, the tumors needed to come out, BUT FIRST, they wanted to do an X-ray to determine if any cancer had spread. What I learned is that vets should X-ray first, because if the cancer has spread to the lungs or other parts than the lumpectomy is rather unnecessary because unfortunately she would be on her last leg. Dr. Flores, on the other hand, wanted to cut into my dog before performing an x-ray. Forcing me to waste $1500 on a surgery that wouldn't have mattered if the cancer had spread. Try this vet at your own risk and ALWAYS get a second opinion.
