| - Acacia is a well kept South Side secret. I've lived here since 2012 and tonight was the first time I worked up enough courage to open the door.
This bar sits just around the corner from my apartment and has always just kind of been there. I've heard people talk about it (all good things) but never actually witnessed anyone coming or going.
My husband, our neighbor and I sat at the bar near the door and were very impressed by the attentive and professional bartenders. He ordered a Guinness and since I had trouble deciding based on liquor, I went with my love of all things creamy and delicious and ordered a Rhus Juce. I've never been a consumer of gin, but this cocktail was a revelation. Light, creamy, refreshing and not the usually "I just ate a Christmas tree" after taste that I normally associate with gin.
Their hand crafted cocktail menu changes, although I'm not sure how often. We dipped our drinks for quite some time - the speakeasy vibe, retro music and low lighting make for a very intimate setting - perfect for chatting and unwinding.
We decided to stay for another drink, my neighbor (also a previous non gin drinker) ordered the Rhus Juce, my husband had another pint of the black stuff (they pour a good one) and I asked the bartender to surprise me. He didn't disappoint and mad a type of gin fizz that the Rhus Juce was based off of. Again, delicious.
The attention to detail and personalized service is just what I'm all about in my seasoned career as a bar patron. This is a great place for before/after dinner drinks, a date, or an intimate group of friends. The cocktails aren't cheap (10-12$) but this isn't the type of bar you hit up to get smashed during happy hour.
I will be back, Acacia....keep the gin cocktails coming!
