| - I initially met the owners of this clarinet shop at a clarinet event in 2014 and kept their card just in case. Well, the "in case" happened, my regular guy seemed to be easing into retirement, became difficult to get a hold of, and was just way too far from home, especially when you suffer from anxiety due to crowded transit. I hadn't gotten my instruments looked at or repaired in three years or more, as I didn't have much money having limited extra income and a very low monthly odsp amount on my husband that after rent, food, transit, and bills, almost nothing left over. But an important fingering on the clarinet was problematic on my A clarinet, which I used for a gig a few days before, and a certain passage was very difficult if not impossible without it in a piece my husband wrote, which is easy when that important and occasionally critical fingering (for those of you who know the clarinet, the 1-1 also known as 1-4 first line E flat/high B flat above the staff with register key) which was fuzzy in the low register and didn't come out in the higher one. I explained the situation being on very limited income, and he offered to do the fix (which turned out was only a very minor one) on the "bridge" key (the one that connects the two main joints) and the little finger keys at no cost. Works great now, and seems to be very interested in selling mine and my husband's clarinet compositions, arrangements, and products.
It helps that he's a LOT closer to my place (his location at Coxwell/Danforth, somewhat west of Coxwell Station) than my regular one, and since it happened to be near where a musical friend of mine lives and also my physiotherapist, it was convenient to go there on the way home from physio that day, and could be done in well under half a day, because of the distance from home, while my regular one I would have to take most if not the whole day away from home. Not only that, but he said that my B flat was in pretty much perfect to near perfect condition despite the three years it had not been looked at. His prices on clarinet stuff locally are a little better to somewhat better than Long and McQuade, especially on reeds. And has the ones I use, which the other one didn't, never did! Definitely coming back, and not just for repairs, at least for purchasing reeds for sure and certain other clarinet supplies, particularly when there are new clarinet students in hand. Am also seriously considering purchasing my next instrument or instruments through them, at least clarinets (don't know if he does other woodwinds) if and when the time comes.
